Do I Need A Dental Implant? – Restorative Dental

Do you have a lost tooth that you do not know how to fix? Do you have recurring or lingering toothaches that seem to never go away? If this is you, you might be eligible for a dental implant.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants can be confusing if you have never heard of them before. Basically, it is restoring your lost or damaged tooth with a custom artificial tooth called a crown. The root is also replaced by the implant.

There are three different parts to the dental implant:

1. Dental Implant

The Dental Implant is similar in appearance to a screw that replaces your tooth’s missing root structure. The implant is made from titanium that is surgically placed in the jawbone. The implant will connect with the jawbone to help realign your bite.

2. Abutment

The Abutment is the connection between the dental implant and the crown. There are many different kinds of abutments and the best one will be chosen for you. The abutment is similar to the heaf of a screw that will help keep your crown in place.

3. Crown

The crown is a custom made an artificial tooth that replaces your missing tooth. The crown is designed to make your smile look natural and blend with the rest of your teeth.

How do I know if I need a dental implant?

Tooth loss can happen for a number of reasons. An accident can cause the fall out or tooth decay can occur over time. No matter the reason, the tooth should be taken care of as soon as possible.

If the issue is not dealt with immediately it can cause further problems such as other teeth shifting, leading to a misaligned bite.

When a tooth is missing, the root is no longer being used in normal activities such as chewing. This causes resorption or the shrinking of roots. Once the jawbone volume is lost, it can be difficult to regain.

Prevention is always the best solution but it does not always go the way we planned it. That’s where dental implants come into play.

Warning Signs

There are a lot of warning signs that may appear when you need a dental implant. The most common signs are recurring and lingering toothaches that appear out of nowhere and for no particular reason.

The swelling of gum tissue can also be a sign or serious root problems.

I didn’t know that replacing your missing teeth early is important so that your teeth do not shift. Ever since my brother lost one of his front teeth in a car accident, he has had a difficult time chewing his food. Maybe he should call a professional so that he can keep the rest of his teeth healthy when he gets a dental implant.
